The scenario playing out in our nations with regard to persecution of followers of Jesus Christ is not unscripted. If truth be told, we should be surprised if it was not so. God’s word informs that sequel to a war in heaven between the forces of good and evil, the great dragon (aka the Devil/ Satan), who ‘deceives the whole world’, and his angels were ‘cast out’ of heaven ‘to the earth’. Heaven rejoiced but earth was woe-ed!

Why? Thus began the work of the devil on earth ‘to make war with… (those) who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ’ Rev.12:7-17. Clearly, persecution of Christians worldwide is prophetic. Even non-Christians suffer – by association with the Redeemed or by their refusal to stand against them. Swelled camps for displaced persons and recent migration patterns attest to this reality.

We all know what is going on. To overcome this enemy of God and man, we need understand the real issues, the underlying spiritual machinations. Then, we need apply divine wisdom to solve the problem. The principal requirement for resolution is not found in this realm. Every one is empowered to defend his life and property against harm by legal means. But if we descend to the level of the perpetrators of evil and kill them in retaliation as some propose, all we do is fuel reprisal attacks. There is a more excellent way.

While the devil does his work, we who know God must do ours – believe His word, found in the ‘Book of Prophecy’ (Bible), and do it. The eyes of our understanding must be ‘enlightened’ to know ‘the hope of His calling’,  ‘the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe’. We need recognise that being the Body of Christ we are seated with Him at the right hand of God, ‘far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come’ Eph 1:18‭-‬23. We are positioned in the seat of POWER.

Power is latent until exercised. The healing of the Centurion’s servant is proof that the word of the King is power. Jesus already procured all we need: “salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come”. While declaring His mission, He stopped at: “to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord .” Lk.4:19. Our work starts where His stopped. The remainder of Is.61 is the mandate to you and I. It begins with: ‘To proclaim… the day of vengeance of our God’ Is.61:2. We are to declare the judgment of God on all wickedness, every collaboration between evil spirits and wicked men.

We have power over the devil and whatever forces he may use against us Lk.10:19; we have been given the name Jesus, the One that God highly exalted, the Name above every name, at which “every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth” Php 2:9‭-‬10; we have the measure of faith required to overcome, for all is done according to our faith .

We must apply Scriptural solution, engage spiritual warfare, for ‘we wrestle not against flesh and blood; the weapons of our warfare are not carnal’. Killing men made in the image of God will not solve the problem. It is against the command of Jesus to love our enemies.

Three things are required to overcome this present evil Rev.12:11:

1. Exercise the power unleashed when Jesus destroyed the works of the devil by shedding His blood 1Jn.3:8b.

2. Speak. God’s word in our mouth is our testimony. Angels rush to perform it Ps.103:20. By our words we allow on earth what is settled in heaven Lam.3:37. Jesus gave us a mouth and wisdom ‘which all (our) adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.’ Lk.21:15.

3. Willingness of the Redeemed to give our lives to the cause of God’s Kingdom, ‘not love (our) lives to the death’; to live daily by faith not fear.

When the ‘sentence’ against an evil work is not ‘executed speedily’, mens’ hearts are ‘fully set’ to do evil Eccl.8:11. If the righteous do nothing, the wicked rule.
