These were the words of Kodjo Botsio, friend and co-prisoner to the legendary Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, in a letter, when the latter was released. What is your life ambition, the thing you desire the most?

Jesus said: ‘And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.’ Mt.21:22. Believers have an open cheque, but many are not writing it while some blatantly misuse the opportunity, asking things already given! How can you determine how far you have reached on a journey which destination you have not defined? Is the art of praying going out of fashion because we do not know what to ask of God?

God never intended for His children to blow with the wind, to the whims and caprices of the devil’s advocates, but to have dominion. Aware of all our needs, He said ‘Ask’; He wants us to desire it too! When your life is given over to Christ, you will have His mind 1Cor.2:16; your desires are tailored to suit His purposes for you. Thus when you ask, you are guided to take action that yields positive result. Fear not, ask boldly; God is able to do ‘exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think’ according to His power that works in you Eph.3:20.

In a radio interview, a young entrepreneur’s answer to the question, ‘How have you moved a 15 thousand Naira (Nigerian currency) business to 100 million in 10 years?’ was: ‘On my knees, in prayer to the Lord, asking that my desires be aligned with His.’ She must have received all she asked, not having asked amiss.

Wisdom nuggets.

To have your desire:

* Get into covenant with your Father and your God Jn.20:17, who willingly gives to those who ask Mt.7:11;

* Whatever you ask you will receive when you please God Heb.11:6, because you ‘believe in the Name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment’ 1Jn.3:22-23. Faith works on the platform of love;

* Ask in Jesus’ name Jn.16:23-24, things in heaven, in earth and under the earth should bow Phil.2:9-10;

* Be thankful and praise God in expectation; those who seek God rejoice PS.105:3.
